Well the 2004 summer Olympic games are over. I watched the games occasional and kept my channel to NBC most of the time but I didn’t see many of the sports showcased at the games this year.

I mostly watched the track and field events with most of my attention being on the runners. I tuned in to swimming, gymnastics, and diving occasionally but not to the extent I have in the past. This is kind of ironic to me sense the Olympic games were broadcast on more US cable, satellite and regular channels than ever this year.

Despite more coverage I did not see wrestling, boxing, soccer, volley ball, badminton, or even the women’s, and men’s basketball competition among many other sports that I usually catch at least a glimpse of during Olympic competition.

I did read about the disastrous performance of the US men’s basketball team (Kudos to the women’s basketball players for achieving gold). The highly trained, handsomely paid professional basketball players of the American men’s basketball team were defeated by amateur or junior league teams from Puerto Rico and finally Argentina. This was the biggest shock of the games this year. Maybe the NBA should recruit some of these foreign players for less handsome salaries.

The NBA might want to look at its criteria for good basketball players. I did here one Argentine player say soon after there victory against the US team that they (US team) may be the best players but in the Olympics basketball is a team sport (???). So, I guess he’s saying American professional players do not play as a team but instead engage in individual ‘showboating’ (I think that’s the term).

In any case someone needs to kick Iverson, Marion and the rest of the crew for their lousy performance. They really seem like a bunch of overpaid and unskilled self-promoters now.

I do want to congratulate Phelps and the swim team and the men and women of the track and field team for their overall excellent performance.

Congratulations to all the Olympians and the host country for putting on some excellent games.

I am confused a little by your ranting, are you upset about the fact you missed every good part about the Olympics this year? Or are you more upset that the USA Men's Basketball team (and I use the word team lightly) making a poor showing at the Olympics. NBC was not the only channel covering the Olympics, you had MSNBC, Bravo, CNBC and I don't remember the name of the other channel it was on as well. I saw practicly any event that made this years Olympics worthwile to me. I saw an excellant gold medal singels match between Chile and USA on one of the sisterr channels. It was far more entertaining then the NBC broadcast of the US men basketball game that was on the same time. I disagree with you that you could not watch all those events for the Olympics this year, but as far as our Basketball team is concerned... Let's just go back to college for players with heart. At least then you will see courage and commitment to the team there!!!

Hi! I've got a question for you about the US mens basketball team. How is it that the team is made up of Professional B-ball players?

I thought that to enter the Olympics, you had to have an amateur standing? I know this is true for the ice skaters, why not for the basketball players? If anyone knows I'd be glad to hear why, and thank you for very much! It doesn't seem quite fair to the rest of the folks who compete in the different sports, if the one team gets a pass on that rule. I think that college players would be a better choice for the team. Just my opinion....was wondering what the reason was. I thought that the US team on the podium looked like a bunch of spoiled kids, unhappy because they didn't get their way. It's only a game, for goodness sake! !

Just my opinion folks, my idea of a good sport is watching a horse race! ! Bye!

I'm not upset at all. I just commented on the poor performance of the Basketball team filled with professional NBA players and my failure to catch more of the games because of time issues or other diversions dispite the games being broadcaste on many channels (mosltly owned by the NBC by the way- not complaining, just pointing out a fact).
