Mother Nature is pouring it on in Florida. Just three weeks ago the state was walloped by Charley and now, or what seems like forever the hurricane Frances is hovering and slowly sliding across the state of Florida. It will have covered the whole state of Florida as a typhoon or tropical storm before it moves on.

Boy, I’m glad I don’t live in Florida. There are a lot of states that am happy I don’t live in largely due to the constant weather extremes that affect those areas. I mean nature is very volatile in those regions.

There are too many tornadoes, cyclones, earthquakes, blizzards, avalanches, mudslides, and forest fires in some regions of the country. I live in a temperate region of the country that occasionally experiences drought, wet spells, unusually cold or hot temperatures or severe thunderstorms.

The severe thunderstorm is the most common type of violent weather we experience in this part of the country. All other violent weather or other violent natural phenomena is rare (but it does occur).

Heart goes out to Floridians. Looks like nature has several more volleys of tropical storms or hurricanes in store for Florida and other states this season.

Wireless Network Adapter: Staples had an okay deal on a Linksys wireless -B USB network adapter this past week so I have one. Now there is really not anything very special about this purchase. The standard is old (although there was a wireless -G USB network adapter card on sale too for twenty more dollars). The standard is old and I think it is best to have wireless network cards that go in a PCI slot.

However I use my computer with an online and offline hard drive (using a ‘hot swapper’) so I needed a network adapter that I could unplug to have a paranoid assurance that my offline hard drive remained offline with almost zero possibility of going online so the purchase in my case was sensible.

It is also sensible to purchase a USB wireless network adapter if you don’t know anything about the internals of a computer or don’t have the time to install a wireless network card that uses a PCI slot.

It is easy to plug and unplug a USB cable from a USB wireless network adapter to a computer so this may be the way to go for many.

The card I have cost thirty-nine dollars and a little change after a ten-dollar mail-in rebate.
