more formal joe than average joe
Well I have had time to use the joeuser.com website for a few days and have made some observations. The first thing I noticed was how formal it is. It is so formal that it is really not like blog site at all. You must have a title and subtitle to your post. You must define your blog using the subject space. It is not optional that you do these things as at livejournal. Livejournal has an optional subject line that a person can use but doe not have to.
The postings seem to be pretty formal. They are like high school or college/university papers that are turned in to a professor at some school. The very wordy blogs are like portions of thesis papers.
Joeuser has other things like a ranking system. People actually can grade your blog entries and then they are ranked. This makes it even more like writing a formal paper for a class or academic journal.
I am using this blog site to replace the blog I had at vivir.blogspot.com but based on the content of this site the more serious blog at livejournal.com/users/backgroundchat would be more appropriate here. Of course I am not going to fall into that trap and change the way I’ve decided to do things. The gerald.joeuser.com blog site will remain on the light side, as informal as possible and as free flowing as possible like a feel a web log should be.
I do not care about the grade or rank of my blog although I am as heavy user of grading and ranking. I will grade and rank things like music, movies or whatever I feel like grading or ranking.
There are positive features to joeuser.com. The fact that you have to have a subject category allows the site to put your blog entry in a category that can be easily found by a visitor to the website. The ranking and grading also helps in this regard. In fact all of this categorizing and grading enables a person’s blog entry to be more visible than it would be at the other websites I used.
The way joeuser allows a person to browse the blogs on this site and the use of headlines and subtitles have some advantages. The organizational structure of the blogs on this site is quite clear. Blogs are filed under subject and below subject is the headline and then subtitle. It is an efficient, clear, and simple categorizing method. It means that a blog posting on this site is very likely to be at least seen by people who browse joeuser.com, which is very different from the other blog sites that I have used.
Joeuser is interactive. The livejournal.com site is interactive too so this feature is not that unique but I think that joeuser is also interactive in an indirect way. Users do not have to leave a comment but they may still express their opinion of a blog entry by grading it. Writing out one’s thoughts is not necessary which saves time while still maintaining interactivity.
I hope I have a wonderful time blogging at joeuser as I did for most of the time I was blogging at vivir.blogspot.com .
