No, this is not a headline from a tabloid magazine. A two-headed baby was born to a couple down in the Dominican Republic. The heads were not side by side but one on top of the other. It was an eerie sight to see the little baby drinking milk (as shown on CNN) from a baby bottle and another head on top of its head.

Surgery was attempted to remove the other head, which did not seem to have a brain or wasn’t conscious (I don’t think the brain was shared with the other head either), although the other head did have features that looked like closed eyelids, hair, and a closed mouth.

If this was centuries past the poor baby would have probably been killed at birth or placed in some sort of freak show, so there is progress in our treatment of the ill, handicapped, or malformed. I am happy that the poor infant had love and affection in its all too short life.

The infant reminds me of the miracle of life. Nature never ceases to amaze me. The creation of a living entity is a complex thing. The creation of life is a very calibrated. The slightest error can lead to unintended consequences and error in design. Life is amazing.

It's too bad that she died after surgery. It seemed like she would have a good chance of leading a normal life since she was otherwise a healthy child. But, at least they tried their best for her, and that's all anyone can ask for.
