When an American says he listens to Spanish music he’s usually not only referring to music from Spain. So when I posted some of my taste in music I mentioned Spanish music, which means all types of Latino (includes Portuguese) music.

Maybe to be more precise I should say music from Mexico, South America, many Caribbean Islands and Spain.

Or maybe I should be even more specific and say I like music like Spanish pop, mariachi, salsa and tango.

Also I failed to mention that I like rap music too. However I think I blogged about music before at this site and other sites so I’m sure a more detailed write-up of my taste in music is posted somewhere or one can just put them all together to get a picture.

If you want to get a taste of Spanish music (or music sung in Spanish) and your taste in music is limited to pop and rock music you may want to check out Shakira (shall I say steaming hot delicious Shakira-hmm… steaming, hot and delicious are all words that can apply to food). I do recommend her CD Laundry Room. All songs on the CD are pretty good in my opinion and some are in Spanish.

Further songs I can highly recommend are “A Festa” by Maria Rita, “El Bueno, El Malo” by Vico C, “Eso No Es Hombre” by Ana Barbara, “La Negra Tiene Tumbao” (stimulating video released for this song), by Celia Cruz, “La Tierra Prometida” by Raza Obrera, “Mas Y Mas” by Robi Draco Rosa, “Me Libera” by El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico, “No Es Lo Mismo” by Alejandro Sanz, “Que Linda Morena” by Area 305, “Que Vo’ Hacer” by Superlitio, and “Siempra Te Amare” by Aida Cuevas,

I have an affinity for Spanish music in part because I have and do study Spanish. If you are an American it is a good thing to learn Spanish because there are so many Spanish speakers in the US and a constant flow of illegal immigrants from south of the United States (Estados Unidos).

Just as Canada is a two-language nation of English and French the US may eventually become a two-language nation of English and Spanish. American Politicians with national inspirations would be well advised to learn Spanish.
