Not Mesmerized

I am not one of those people who engage in celebrity worship (for the most part). I even find it difficult to remember the names of actors (or any other of the key positions in film-making).

Only once in my life have I ever written a movie star. Mind you it is highly unlikely that big time stars will ever read a letter or email you send. They have public relation firms handling their mail and screening their mail. They probably receive too much fan mail or emails to read each letter.

I wrote this one actor twice and it was basically an, “I wanna f**k you, can I f**k you and you’re so f**kable” kind of letter. Of course I didn’t say it exactly that way but the letters were written for cock erecting reasons or shall I say for a star that caused cock to become erect.

I don’t give much thought to actors for the most part and don’t even notice them when I watch a movie because all I see is the character they are playing - if they are good actors that is.

Having said this there are several ways an actor will become familiar to me. The best way for me to learn an actors name is if that actor stars in a lot of movies that I like. I will go out of my way to learn their name if this happens and if they are in films that I enjoy the good script and good directing will usually rub off on them and I’ll proclaim, “he/she is a really good actor”.

Another way an actor will come to my attention is if they are in the news a lot. I am a consumer of all types of news. If an actor finds him or her self in the regular and tabloid news a lot I will probably come to know them for better or worse.

Exposure will also get them noticed (I guess this is similar to being in the news a lot). The more they are before my eyeballs the more likely I’ll know their name and the movies or shows they played in even if I never seen the movies or shows before.

This is odd. I know the names of more television actors than those that star mainly in theater released films even though I watch very few made for television shows. Even if I rarely or never watched a particular TV program I probably still would be able to identify the actor if I constantly see him or her. Just by channel surfing I become familiar with television stars.

There may be a million talk shows (and other types of shows) that deal mainly with entertainers out there and it is in the actor’s interest to occasionally appear on some of these programs for the exposure.

The days of the actor who wants to be secretive and a recluse and still expect to be well known and liked (and make big bucks) are just about over. You must be interviewed, reveal something about yourself and mingle with the so-called ‘little people’ to make a good living as an actor in today’s environment.

A highly acclaimed actor or award winning actor also has a high probability of being noticed by me. Those that are judged to be in top form or are at the top of their profession in any field are usually noticed. The actor will also get the extra benefit of likely being known and/or recognized long into the future by getting a highly prized award.

I know the actor Charlie Chaplin because his name appears in many text praising his skills as a good actor (director too) and comic genius in film during the silent film period. His name carries on many years after his stardom and years after his death.

I will never be one of those that must see a film if a particular actor appears in it, have to go see an actor in person, or one that must have an actor’s autograph. In fact I do not want an autograph from any actor.

I’ve never been one to try and act, dress, or in any way mimic an actor or any type of entertainer for that matter (singer, professional athlete etc.).

I don’t buy products or services do to celebrity endorsements. I don’t want to look like the latest singer. I don’t want to wear the same athletic shoes, drink the same sport’s drink or wear the same brand underwear as a particular athlete.

I guess the actor (all entertainers) should be thankful for the more fanatic fan. They form fan clubs in the actors name, religiously go see every one of the actor’s movies and constantly chat about the actor at home, school, the office and online. All these things serve to raise the value of the actor in the market place, which might lead to more people seeing their performances and enjoying their talents.
